A very special night bringing together some of the main players in the new Cumbia revolution.
The irresistible, skanking, off-beat rhythm of classic Cumbia has been the musical heartbeat to much of Latin America from California to Argentina. Now there is definitely a new Cumbia mood in the air. Very Be Careful, based in Los Angeles, are inspired by cumbia and vallenato from ‘50s and ‘60s Colombia: driving percussion, raw vocals, accordion, double bass and infectious melodies.
Frente Cumbiero is Sonido Martines (Argentina) and Toro Galeano (Colombia). Working from their base in Bogotá - Colombia, the FRENTE CUMBIERO moves up and down Latin America doing cumbias and digging for records in cities such as La Paz, Lima, San Francisco, Barranquilla, Buenos Aires, New York, Puebla and Monterrey. On their London debut they bring an explosive selection of records, loaded with guiro y guacharaca, and are giving away free visas of tropical gozadera.
Also spinning is DJ Hugo Mendez whose cumbia soul has led him to set up the legendary Sofrito parties and mastermind Soundway Records reissues of classic Colombian cumbia.
